Aims:
- To encourage a positive attitude to reading and foster a knowledge and appreciation of books
- To enable pupils to develop their reading to the best of their ability – to understand and use language effectively
- To enable pupils to fulfil their potential in literacy and oracy
- To equip pupils with the skills to become competent, confident users of language in all its form
Objectives:
- To provide guidance on the school’s approach to reading that is clear to staff, pupils, parents/carers, commissioning schools and outside agencies
- To establish a coherent approach to reading across all subjects
- To create a supportive environment which encourages reading and develops skills enabling pupils to fulfil their potential in reading
- To ensure that the development of reading leads to all pupils making progress
