Physical Education

At The Aspire Academy, we recognise the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles and making a positive impact on physical, mental and social health. We provide a highly varied PE curriculum that follows the three ‘I’s framework: INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION & IMPACT.

Our ultimate aim and intent is to inspire children and foster a passion for physical activity. We aim for every child to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles beyond their years at secondary school. We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging PE lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all.

We also create strong links with community providers of sport and physical activity, providing opportunities for children and families to continue their engagement with physical activity outside of school provision. We offer a curriculum that:

  • Provides a depth and breadth of sports (traditional and non-traditional), games and physical activities.
  • Adopt a fully inclusive practice to allow all pupils to access sport freely and participate effectively.
  • Use prior knowledge and current attainment level to challenge all individual pupils.
  • Foster actual and perceived motor competence.
  • Provide a pedagogic sequence of leaning which enables pupil to develop critical thinking skills.
  • Embrace a variety of curriculum and instruction model designed for physical education.
  • Incorporate the development of numeracy and literacy through physical activity and school sport.
  • Deliberately prioritise the facilitation of meaningful experiences.
  • Evoke physical literate behaviours to encourage all pupils to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities and sport for life.

Our PE curriculum offers breadth and inclusivity within the programme which dedicates itself to creating an environment that allows pupils to understand and display our 7 department core values: –

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Teamwork
  • Resilience
  • Confidence/self-esteem
  • Discipline
  • Respect
  • Interpersonal skills

We have created a framework to outline the critical points that surround participation, development and competition. It aims to help pupils to achieve their full sporting potential as well as to encourage all pupils to participate in sport and physical activity for life. This framework focuses on the many factors for sport participation, including physical literacy, pedagogy, psychology, specialisation, trainability, emotional growth, and much more.

PE, sport and fitness staff will aim to integrate this framework into their professional delivery to maximise the progress of the pupils, help to preserve the joy of sport, understand the foundations provided for development beyond secondary education, as well as to appreciate development throughout life.
