The AQA Unit Award Scheme (UAS) offers our pupils the opportunity to have their achievements formally recognised with a certificate issued by AQA each time a short unit is successfully completed.
There are no limits on:
what can be accredited, as long as it is worthwhile and meaningful for the pupil
- who can achieve, in terms of age or ability
- how long it takes to achieve or when this takes place
- how learning can be evidenced.
All of our pupils work towards Unit Awards alongside their current curriculum, whether that is core subjects, vocational courses or work experience. Since rolling out the scheme during the 2015-16 academic year our pupils have achieved over 14,000 AQA Unit Awards in total.
Here are our annual certificate claim totals from the past few academic years….
- 2024-25 = 3414 certificates claimed
- 2023-24 = 1249 certificates claimed
- 2022-23 = 1231 certificates claimed
- 2021-22 = 1293 certificates claimed
- 2020-21 = 2247 certificates claimed
Flexibility is key with UAS, and their motto is ‘Achievement for All’. We encourage and support pupils to show them what they can do, rather than what they can’t.
“The AQA Unit Award Scheme is invaluable as it is an important pathway for our pupils to receive accreditation for their achievements. It provides a wide range of units which are differentiated, making accreditation accessible to all pupils regardless of their ability, enabling them to receive certification and success via all elements of their learning here in school. Furthermore, through allowing amendments and writing our own units, we are able to expand and customise units to our pupil’s individual learning interests and needs”.
The document below details our SMSC scheme of learning and curriculum plan, across all year groups here in school – we are encouraging personal growth through reflection and goal-setting – and will then accredit this journey using the AQA Unit Award Scheme.
