What does the qualification cover?
This qualification encourages an understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. It covers children’s growth, learning and development. There are also units to help with self-development.
It also shares units with the Entry Level 3 in Caring for a Child/Children qualifications and the Level 1 Personal and Social Development qualifications.
How many credits are required to complete it?
Pupils need to complete at least 10x credits to achieve this qualification.
Pupils must achieve the following four units:
- Unit 9: Respecting and Valuing Children, Scheme of Work
- Unit 14: Growth and Development of Young Children, Scheme of Work
- Unit 20: Healthy Eating for Families, Scheme of Work
- Unit 24: Practical Health and Safety when with Young Children, Scheme of Work
How is it assessed?
It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.

Pupils can progress to the following qualifications:
• Level 1 Certificate in Developing Employability Skills
• Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People
• Level 2 Award in Babysitting
• Level 2 Award in Preparation for the Responsibilities of Parenting
• Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care
• Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
