This qualification have been designed to help learners understand aspects of the hair and beauty industry and to cover some of the knowledge and practical skills required to work successfully within it.
How many credits are required to complete it?
To achieve this qualification, the learner must achieve a minimum of 15 credits. Learners must complete the two mandatory units from Group A (6 credits) and three optional units from Groups B, C or D (9 credits). At least 9 credits must be at Level 1 or above.
Learners may only take one of either R/502/3804 (Hair Plaiting) and Y/502/3805 (Plaiting and Twisting Hair) – they must not take both units.

How is it assessed?
Each BTEC unit of study will be assessed against the grading criteria set by Pearson Edexcel, the awarding body for this qualification. Throughout the course a variety of assessment methods will be used including written work, observation, case studies and internal assignments.
The grading for the course is awarded as either Pass or Referral.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
Successfully completing this qualification will allow progression on to further studies relating to the beauty industry subjects such as BTEC Level 2 in Hair or Beauty. Alternatively there is potential to enter the workplace through an apprenticeship or similar training placement.
