Alternative Provision Free Schools

Celebrating Successes, Sharing Practice and Forming a Network

A One Day Seminar hosted by The University of Worcester, Supported by New Schools Network and organised by The Aspire Academy Trust

Wednesday 19th October 2016, The University of Worcester Arena

Purpose of the Conference

– create a national networking opportunity for AP Free Schools in order to share best practice and current issues
– explore the training and support needs of AP Free Schools and the potential role of HE in meeting these
– explore the potential role, benefits and practical implications of creating a formal network to represent AP Free Schools

We are inviting representatives from all Alternative Provision Free Schools that are either open or in pre-opening to attend the conference as well as individuals who are representing groups in the process of making an application for an AP Free School to DfE.

The New Schools Network is supporting this event and a representative will be making a keynote speech at the conference.

10.30 Welcome and introductions by conference Chair (Professor Sarah Greer, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Worcester)

10.45 An overview of current policy and possible future developments in AP (New Schools Network Speaker)

11.15 Developing an Alternative Provision Multi Academy Trust (Seamus Oates, CEO TBAP Academy Trust)

11.45 The potential role for a University in supporting and developing quality practice (University of Worcester)

12.15 Partners in Alternative Provision (3 x 10 minute presentations followed by question time)

– The Third Sector (Anna Smee, CEO UK Youth)

– The Community Trust (Carol Hart, Worcester Warriors Community Foundation)

– The Local Authority (Steve Larkin, Worcestershire CC)

13.45 Case Study Presentations (7 min presentations followed by question time)

15.00 Group Discussions to consider need for future network, support needs and co-ordination. (Possible topics for future consideration could be – training needs, preparing for Ofsted, measuring achievement, great governance – developing student voice)
